Teofimo Lopez Tells Frank Martin How To Beat Tank - 'It Will Be An Early Night'

Teofimo Lopez has told Frank Martin to take the fight to Gervonta Davis to get the win.

Martin chases his first world title, hoping to give Davis his sole defeat by winning the WBA Lightweight Title. Frank is an undefeated southpaw who is known for having good defense. That has created the narrative that Martin may seek to outbox Davis. However, Lopez has advised Martin to adopt a different approach. He urged him to take the fight to Davis. This is a risky strategy, as you may run into Davis’ power shots.

Ryan Garcia discovered this when he boxed Davis. Garcia pressed the action from the opening round, landing on Davis with some success. However, the fight turned in round two. Garcia left fly with his left hook. Davis ducked under to counter with his left hand to drop Garcia. Ryan was never the same, as he was eventually stopped in round seven. Rolando Romero also showed he was having success against Davis. Romero was outlanding Davis, landing the stronger power shots before he was stopped in round six. But to be great, fighters must take risks. That is what Davis felt Martin had to do.

Lopez Reacts

“I think that if Frank Martin goes and presses Tank Davis without showing him any respect then we should see a different type of outing. However, if [Martin] comes in there just respecting the power and the hype behind Gervonta Davis, then I believe it will be an early night for Frank Martin,” Lopez stated

Martin will have the advantage of being Ryan Garcia’s stablemate. Ryan had some success against Davis when he came forward, which is why Martin must get the balance right. Davis can box and hit you hard, which he showed against Isaac Cruz. Despite having injured his hand, Davis was able to keep Cruz off him by boxing his way to a unanimous decision win.

Martin’s Chances

Martin has a world-class coach in Derrick James, who helped mastermind Ryan Garcia’s win over Devin Haney. Garcia was a big underdog, but James’ ability to get the best out of his fighters paid off. Although Garcia failed two VADA test for Ostarine, he still had to instil James’ tactics. Martin was feeling confident about his chances.

“I feel like this is gonna be a good fight. We all know what ‘Tank’ brings, but a lot of guys don’t know what I bring. They know a little bit of it, but they don’t know the full arsenal I have. We know ‘Tank’ is explosive and fast. He’s got it all, but on fight night, the world will see that I’ve got it all too.

“So it’s gonna be two dogs in there locking up like pitbulls. The best man will win that night. I believe in myself, even if the world is against me. [And] I know the work that I put in. I feel like I was born to do this. I feel it in my body. It’s just time for me to show up and show out,” Martin stated
