Ryan Garcia Says He Will Fight Rolando Romero On April 20th

Ryan Garcia has said that he will fight Rolando Romero on April 20, 2024, putting an end to the recent back-and-forth with the fighter.

Garcia initially withdrew from talks with Devin Haney to make the fight. Then it all changed after Oscar De La Hoya confirmed the fight was off. He stated that Romero had priced himself out of a fight, leaving Jose Ramirez as the front-runner. Garcia rejected talk of a Ramirez fight, while Romero slammed De La Hoya and Garcia for trying to make the Isaac Cruz fight instead. Now Garcia has confirmed that he will face Romero, allowing him to fight for Romero’s WBA Junior Welterweight Title.

“Per sources involved, sides are trying to finalize Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero. If they do the fight would take place April 20 and headline a DAZN PPV in Las Vegas. #boxing,” Dan Rafael said

“It’s time to enter battle once again. I understand that there has been a lot of confusion but this fight is happening. I’m happy to announce this. Everyone is going to post this soon, don’t worry,” Garcia stated

Despite this being the case, other reports state Romero fill face Isaac Cruz on the Tszyu-Thurman card

Just as Romero and Garcia are close to signing an agreement, the same cannot be said for Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. They are currently the best two lightweights in the division. Shakur has the WBC Lightweight Title, a belt he acquired after beating Edwin De Los Santos. The win made him a three-division champion, putting him in line for a Davis fight.

Davis is the current WBA Champion after he was elevated from his status as a Regular Champion following Devin Haney’s decision to vacate and move up to 140. That means a big unification is possible at 135 if both sides can agree on terms.

Davis Vs. Stevenson

Stevenson is currently with Top Rank but has one more fight left on his deal. He has already stated that he will explore other promoters, meaning a deal with PBC could make the fight happen. But so far, Calvin Ford has no intention of putting Davis in with Stevenson.

“Do the fans pay for that?“Why would I put Tank in that situation when we can’t do what we do? Right now, if Tank doesn’t get a knockout, Do you get what I’m saying? “Everybody thinks Tank has got to knock somebody out to win a fight. In that fight with Shakur, I thought the guy [Edwin De Los Santos] won the first round. They gave the first round to Shakur. Do you want to put yourself in a fight like that?” Ford stated

Stevenson may only be pleasing to the eye of some fans, but if Davis desires to be the best of his era, then he must face Shakur. Outside of that, a fight at 140 pounds against Devin Haney would equally do the same for creating his legacy. But so far, those fights appear far from being made.
