Mayweather Has A Dig At Tank Davis, Says Shakur Has More Skills

Floyd Mayweather has had a dig at Gervonta Davis, saying Shakur Stevenson is the more skilled fighter.

Mayweather and Davis have had a rocky relationship throughout the years. In the run-up to Davis’ fight with Frank Martin on June 15, Tank claimed Mayweather was being held in Dubai due to owing people money. Mayweather responded by sharing footage on his social media of Davis dancing while also sharing a call out video from Shakur Stevenson.

The last time Davis and Mayweather were seen at a public event was at the Ryan Garcia fight. Mayweather embraced Davis after he stopped Garcia via a body shot in the seventh round. But Davis’ recent comments suggest that all is not well. Tank revealed his new PBC deal for 6-7 fights surpasses that of the $200 million deal Mayweather had signed with Showtime in 2013. Davis claimed that since he has gone beyond what Mayweather earned at the same stage of their careers, that has created some animosity. Mayweather has added fuel to the fire, saying Shakur has more skills.

Mayweather Reacts

“The biggest puncher at 135 will probably be Gervonta Davis, but the most skillful fighter at 135 will be hands down Shakur Stevenson,” Mayweather said

Davis has said his deal includes a fight with Stevenson, which would settle the debate. Mayweather’s comments could also be an attempt to sign Stevenson. Shakur is in the final fight of his Top Rank deal as he boxes Artem Harutyunyan on July 6. Shakur is open to exploring other promoters. A deal with PBC could make the Tank Davis fight much easier.

Elsewhere, Mayweather has reacted to Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson. Their July 20 clash has received much criticism over safety. Tyson will be 58 when he enters the ring against Paul, who has the advantage of being 28. Tyson’s last pro fight was a defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, although he did have an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Meanwhile, Paul is the more active fighter.

Since December, he has had two first-round stoppages against Andre August and Ryan Bourland. Tyson has raised worries over his health following a medical incident on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on May 26. As per In Touch Weekly, Tyson needed medical help as the flight was delayed by two hours. While his team reassured fans that it was just an ulcer that caused the issue, fans have called for the fight not to go ahead.

Paul vs. Tyson

“Mike had some kind of medical emergency on the plane, and paramedics boarded. Before the paramedics arrived, the flight issued an announcement asking for a doctor — the message even came on everyone’s screens,” a witness

“Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him,” Tyson’s team

But there is a huge amount of money on the line. Tyson reportedly gets $30 million, which does not include sponsorship deals. Paul is likely to get something similar, if not more, in a bout where he is not facing a pro boxer. Since Mayweather has also been picking up money via exhibitions against non-pro boxers, he understood Paul’s motives.

“What he’s doing is kinda cool. If he can continue to steal money and they match him the way they match him, I can’t knock his hustle. If they continue to match him how they do it, more power to him,” Mayweather stated
