Boxing threw up two interesting bouts this weekend, with fans having plenty of fights to keep them entertained.

Alycia Baumgardner faced Christina Linardatou with the undisputed featherweight title on the line. Baumgardner was looking to gain revenge following their first 2018 fight which ended in a loss.

Meanwhile, Frank Martin took on Artem Harutyunyan in a WBC title eliminator with the latter looking to target the biggest names of the division.

If Martin came out victorious, then bouts with Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis could follow in the future.

Although there were no shocks on the card, the bouts did provide plenty of action for the fans.

With that being said, there were plenty of things on the line.

Baumgardner Vs. Linardatou

Alycia Baumgardner remained undisputed at super featherweight by beating Christina Linardatou in a unanimous decision victory.

In front of her home crowd at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan, Baumgardner was on a mission to get revenge following her defeat to Linardatou in 2018.

From the opening bell, Baumgardner used her jab to great effect to put the pressure on Linardatou with an uppercut and left hook. The challenger offered nothing in return, as Baumgardner dominated early on.

Although Linardatou increased her output in the following rounds, there was little to show for it.

Baumgardner’s Pressure

Baumgardner stepped on the gas in round four with a right hand to the body and a left hook to the head.

Linardatou was backed up, as the flurry of punches continued to roll in. A heated exchange followed at the bell, as the referee issued a warning.

Linardatou gained some confidence in round five, as she caught Baumgardner with a left hand. However, the latter responded with an uppercut to the head.

Baumgardner began to turn it up. She landed three straight uppercuts in round six, punishing her opponent at will.

As the fight entered the later rounds, Baumgardner pinned her opponent on the ropes. She hit Linardatou to the body but the latter continued to stay off the canvas.

Although Linardatou sought to apply pressure in the later rounds, it was not enough on the scorecards: 99-91,98-92 and 98-92.

Baumgardner’s Comments

“I would give [my performance] an ‘A. I can close this chapter. This game is about having fun and that’s exactly what I was doing. I’m just thankful to be here.

“What’s next? 135! Katie Taylor, I want you… Chantelle Cameron, Amanda Serrano. I will continue to defend my titles at 130 because I can do that.

“I’m great and I’m getting better. I’m always perfecting myself, always working on something. I’m a student of the game,” Baumgardner

“Alycia’s ready for mega-fights and Serrano is a tremendous fight. Serrano next, then the winner of Cameron-Taylor. Only big fights for Alycia now,” Eddie Hearn

Martin Vs. Harutyunyan

Frank Martin secured a hard-fought win over Artem Harutyunyan in a close fight.

Martin was the favorite going into the fight, but it was the challenger who started off better.

Harutyunyan’s right hand landed, catching Martin’s attention as he shook the American. While that may have been the case, Martin countered with a left to slow down the German.

But it was only until the sixth round that Martin started to get some headway. He began to land on Harutyunyan, as he chased his opponent with some powerful combinations.

However, Harutyunyan stayed in the fight as he was ahead on the cards. But things changed in the latter rounds. In the eleventh round, Martin began to land cleanly on Harutyunyan as he covered up.

And the increased attacks on the body showed in the final round. Harutyunyan took a knee, which proved telling on the scorecards, as the judges scored the bout as follows: 114-113, 115-112 and 115-112.

Comments

“He [Harutyunyan] definitely tough. I hit him with some big shots, he stood up, he bounced around the ring like a ping pong, but, you know, he stood tall. I take my hat off to hum because he took some big shots,” Martin

“Congratulations to Frank Martin. He’s a good fighter. But I saw every punch from him. But the last round, my eye got hurt very bad. That was the point where I had to take a few seconds to recover. I think (the eye is) hurt badly.

“I don’t agree. But if possible, I would like to fight him again,” Harutyunyan
