Tony Bellew Backs Conor Benn To Beat Eubank Jr.
Tony Bellew has backed Conor Benn to beat Chris Eubank Jr. if the pair do meet in the ring.
Following Eubank Jr.’s tenth-round-stoppage of Liam Smith, the calls for a Benn fight renewed once again. Eubank made it clear in his post fight comments that he was targeting the biggest fight which included Benn and GGG.
In addition, Eddie Hearn confirmed that talks were taking place for a bout at Wembley in April. But before that can happen, there are several hurdles that need to be overcome.
Benn is currently undergoing a hearing after having failed two VADA tests for Clomiphene. He was initially suspended by UKAD in April. Despite the suspension being removed, UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed it.
Therefore, until the hearing is concluded, Benn’s future is uncertain. In addition, there will be some issues regarding the fight. In the initial terms, Eubank Jr. was required to make a career-low weight of 157 pounds.
And the struggle clearly showed as there were concerns over his health. And moving forward, Eubank has made it clear that he is the A-side. But provided that these hurdles are overcome, Bellew is backing Benn to be too much for Eubank Jr.

“Too quick, too explosive, I just think he beats him. I don’t know how it’ll go, I just need to see Conor back first to see what the year’s took out of him, but I still favor Conor. Explosive, powerful, quick- Conor Benn’s one of them, you’re going to have to put him to sleep. He’s going out on his shield,” Bellew said
Nevertheless, those comments have to be read in light of the following. Benn would be jumping up two weight classes to fight at 160 pounds for the first time in his career.
Not only that, but he has been out of action for over a year, with a legal battle on his hands. In addition, Benn may have to deal with a hostile crowd due to his failed tests.
This is even if he does manage to avoid a ban. After all, the sport has been plagued by numerous failed tests, including Dillian Whyte, Amir Khan and Alycia Baumgardner of late.
And that could have a bearing on his performance. Nevertheless, Benn’s mindset on facing Eubank Jr. was clear.
Benn Not Impressed By Eubank’s Win
“Smith made him look good. What, it takes you ten rounds to dispatch of someone who’s got a broken leg? I’m not really impressed. ou could definitely see that it was an injury, that’s all that was. 100 per cent, you could tell Smith weren’t himself…I’d get hold of him [Eubank] within four, I’d put it on him straightaway. We can do that next, no problem. If the public want it then I’ll come up to 160lbs no problem, 147lbs, 154lbs, 160lbs, no problem, I’ll come up,” Benn stated
