A Fury Win Would Make Usyk A Great – Says Tony Bellew
Tony Bellew has talked up Oleksandr Usyk by outlining what the Ukrainian needs to do to become an all-time great.
Usyk has already done what most boxers will never achieve by becoming undisputed at cruiserweight. This has been followed up by his accomplishments at heavyweight, as the Ukrainian is the current united heavyweight champion with three belts.
And in the process of doing so, Usyk remains unbeaten in his quest to become undisputed at heavyweight. However, talks over an undisputed fight with Tyson Fury have failed to result in a fight getting made.
Despite Usyk agreeing to a 70-30 split publicly, the talks broke down. Disputes over a rematch clause could not be overcome. Usyk reportedly demanded the same split for the winner in a rematch. Meanwhile, Fury was demanding a 50-50 split. And for Bellew, a win over Fury is needed for him to become a great.

“I think he just wants that unification fight now. He wants that WBC title and to unify the heavyweight division and then I think he’ll just want to walk away. I don’t think we’ll see him again. I just think he’ll want to ride off into the sunset and so he should. He deserves to. He’s been absolutely amazing. He’s almost done it all so there will be nowhere left to go if he beats Tyson Fury which he is capable of doing. “If he does {beat Tyson Fury} then he will definitely go down as one of the greats. You can’t call him the greatest of all time but he is definitely in the conversation,” Bellew

Nevertheless, the chances of facing Fury appear slim. The ‘Gypsy King’ chose to face Francis Ngannou on October 28th, 2023. That would go on to suggest that Fury’s frame of mind is not right for a mega fight with Usyk.
But by facing someone who has never boxed before, it is hardly going to prepare Fury for the tricky bout that he would face against the unified heavyweight champion. So up to now, there is still some way to go before a fight is made.
