Ryan Garcia Made $50 For The Devin Haney Fight - 'Got The Bag'

Ryan Garcia made $50 million for his fight with Devin Haney

Garcia secured the biggest win of his career, sending Haney to the canvas three times before winning a majority decision. The result was a significant upset, given Garcia’s pre-fight antics. He admitted drinking and smoking weed, while his social media activity suggested he was not focused. After the fight, Garcia admitted that some of it was an act, leaving question marks over how much his behaviour was scripted.

However, it did enough to get some eyes on the fight. Following the win, Garcia’s social media following skyrocketed. He has close to a million followers on X, while his Instagram following has increased over a million since the fight. That will only increase Garcia’s leverage, making him the current face of boxing.

Garcia Reacts

It has been a remarkable year for the boxer, given the amount of money he has made. The Haney fight was accompanied by a $2 million bet Garcia made on himself to beat Haney. The victory earned him $12 million, showing how much the gamble paid off. The $50 million also surpassed how much Garcia made for the Gervonta Davis fight. Despite losing via a seventh-round knockout, Garcia earned $30 million.

That has brought his worth close to $100 million for two fights. His increased stardom will only give him more leverage in negotiations going forward. The boxer is eyeing a rematch with Davis, which would sell based on their first fight. That fight sold over 1.2 million PPVs, making it the highest-grossing event of 2023, bringing in a live gate of over $20 million. Garcia is also targeting a fight with Isaac Cruz.

Garcia and Pitbull have Mexican connections, making it a huge fight on Mexican Independence Day or Cinco De Mayo. There is also the possibility of Garcia fighting Spence. The duo is not on good terms after reports Spence did not pay Derrick James money from his fight purse, which is owed. James later sued Spence for damages, wanting at least $5 million. Since Garcia and Spence trained under James, they know each other well.

Haney’s Future

While Haney did come up short, his efforts were recognized. The boxer earned $35 million for the loss to Garcia. Given the manner in which he was dropped three times, it did soften the blow somewhat. The boxer also received $1.5 million from Garcia, who paid him that fine for not making weight. While Haney’s commercial value has been damaged, the purse is enough to secure his future financially.

Since he is only 25, Haney has earned what most boxers never will. Moving forward, he will likely box Sandor Martin next, as Martin is Haney’s WBC mandatory at 140. The fight will struggle to sell, as Haney is not seen as a legitimate champion. While he does hold the WBC belt, that is only because Garcia failed to gain weight. That is something Haney will have to deal with moving forward.
