Sandor Martin Calls Out Devin Haney For His Next Fight

Sandor Martin has called out Devin Haney after signing with Top Rank.

Martin is on a two-fight win streak since his loss to Teofimo Lopez, showing he is in great form. That has put him in the WBC mandatory position for the right to face Devin Haney. Haney is the current WBO 140-pound champion, having secured the belt from Regis Prograis. Haney has been exploring options outside his mandatory, including Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez. Having initially contacted Team Haney to make the fight, Garcia has pulled out of fight talks. His focus was on fighting Rolando Romero, which he called the better business move.

A fight with Lopez is possible later, provided the Takeover beats Jamaine Ortiz. They face off on February 8, 2024, during Super Bowl week. That would set up a unification fight with Lopez. But one thing which has hampered Haney from getting those big fights has been his reportedly low PPV buys. He allegedly did 50,000 PPV buys for the Prograis fight, leaving him in a poor negotiating position for the big fights. If Haney cannot secure those bouts, Martin may be an option. By the looks of it, the Spaniard was ready for his shot.

Martin On Haney

“Devin Haney calls himself ‘The Dream,’ but I am his worst nightmare. I will be the next WBC junior welterweight world champion. Whether he wants to lose his title to me in the ring or run up the scales to welterweight, the choice is his. I am excited for the next chapter of my career with OPI Since 82 and Top Rank in my corner,” Martin said

Another person who was looking to do the same was Adrien Broner. The former four-division champion called out Haney, urging his father, Bill, to send them a signed contract. Broner is not in the best form, having only fought four times in five years.

He had been absent from the sport due to substance abuse and mental health problems before returning to face Bill Hutchinson last June. Broner could have looked more impressive despite winning as he failed to stop his opponent. Broner indicated his desire to secure a world title at 140 following the fight. But based on Bill’s current view of Broner, a fight with his son Devin is unlikely.

Haney Vs. Broner

“Ab, Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner. The real problem AB is you put you versus Dev on your IG, so I hit you. Out of respect for you and the boxing community in general, the message was seen. So you and I know what that means. Broner, you once presented the respect for boxing and the respect of the hood. Don’t worry about it, AB. We’re going to take it over from here. It’s the Devin Haney era, and you knew we was going to pull up. It’s business, not personal,” Bill stated
