Tim Bradley And Brian Castano Pick Canelo To Beat Charlo

In some recent boxing news, Tim Bradley has backed Canelo Alvarez to stop Jermell Charlo on September 30th, 2023.

The two boxers are close to the main event, having had their pre-fight presser. Alvarez vowed to show Charlo that he would face something ‘different’ in response to claims that the American did not respect his skills.

Meanwhile, the undisputed junior middleweight champion talked up his ‘caliber’ as a boxer. Alvarez is the heavy favorite as Charlo will move up two weight classes to try and claim all of the Mexican’s belts at 168 pounds.

And just as Bradley had picked Terence Crawford to beat Charlo, he predicted the same when it came to Canelo. The former world champion simply felt that Alvarez would be too big and strong.

Bradley Picks Canelo

“I think he’s going to slowly break down Charlo and probably stop him late. We know what we’re going to get from Canelo Alvarez without a doubt. No one’s ever really committed down to Canelo’s body. I think it’s gutsy, but at the same time I think it’s dangerous,” Bradley

Nevertheless, Bradley did highlight Canelo’s weakness. His only two losses have come at the hands of Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

Both fighters set the pace with their jab and kept the Mexican off balance, while also having enough power to keep him at bay. That is how Bradely saw Canelo coming unstuck, but whether Charlo can implement that is anyone’s guess.

Canelo’s Weakness

“The two men that beat Canelo Alvarez. What did they have? They had a great jab. [The two also] had great footwork. They were counterpunchers. Floyd Mayweather. Bivol. The blueprint is out. There’s two blueprints that’s out on Canelo Alvarez. Yet alone Bivol had to throw 700 punches to get the victory. If he (Charlo) has that type of stamina (that Bivol had against Canelo), and if he can use his feet and box….then he has a damn good chance of winning this fight,” Bradley

Castano Favors Canelo

At the same time, Charlo’s former opponent Brian Castano has also picked Alvarez to win. The former WBO champion knows what it takes to face Charlo having fought him twice.

In their first encounter, the fight ended in a split-decision draw. The Argentine’s pressure put Charlo on the backfoot against the ropes as he struggled to deal with the pace.

In the rematch, Charlo stopped Castano in the tenth round to become the undisputed junior middleweight champion. The adjustment of moving and staying off the ropes did work. But against Canelo, Castano predicted another outcome.

“This is a big fight. I think Canelo will win this fight. I think it’s difficult for Charlo to make this distance. Canelo, I think he can win by knockout. [He] is intelligent, and Charlo moves more. Canelo is a hard puncher. I think Canelo wins, but this fight is very difficult for him. Canelo is a great person,” Castano

Charlo may be the underdog, but a win over Alvarez would transform his career. So can he do it? Time will tell. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
