Dmitry Bivol Will Only Move Up If He Conquers The Light-Heavyweight Division

Dmitry Bivol has revealed that he has no intention of moving up to cruiserweight or beyond until he conquers the light-heavyweight division.

The WBA champion is at a crossroads when it comes to his career. Bivol has struggled to find an opponent since his win over Zurdo Ramirez.

Prior to that, Bivol set the world alight when he beat Canelo Alvarez via a unanimous decision. But fighting for the other belts has not been easy.

The WBC has confirmed that they will not allow Russian or Belarusian fighters to compete for the title due to the war in Ukraine.

That has currently prevented Bivol from having an undisputed fight with the unified champion Artur Beterbiev.

But until that hurdle is overcome with Bivol coming out victorious, the boxer has no other goals on his mind.

“Of course in my dreams, I want to fight for belts: cruiserweight, middleweight…But in reality, I have to finish deals in my weight class.

“I don’t want to move somewhere until I’ve finished things in my weight class. Maybe one day, I don’t know. I’m not big for cruiserweight.

“But maybe one day, I don’t know, I will see some interesting fight for belts. I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe I will take this challenge for me to move up to cruiserweight,” Bivol

Nevertheless, that could hinder his chances moving forward. A move up to cruiserweight opens up other possibilities.

Bivol would have the chance to become a two-division champion with some realistic opponents that he could beat.

The current WBC cruiserweight champion is none other than Badou Jack. The latter is 39-years-old and not getting any younger, as he may prove to be the ideal opponent.

After all, Canelo was targeting such a fight until talks broke down after the failure to agree to a catchweight.

But when it comes to Bivol, the star has ruled out a catchweight if he were to move up, making such a fight a lot easier.

“No, no, no catchweight. Only for [the real] weight. Catchweight could be for belts? It could be or not? No, if one day, if I want to fight for cruiserweight, it will not be catchweight. Just cruiserweight,” Bivol
