Romero Slams Garcia For Wasting His Time; Romero Wants Cruz Next

Rolando Romero has slammed Ryan Garcia, Oscar De La Hoya, and DAZN for allegedly wasting his time over arranging a fight with Ryan.

Garcia vs. Romero seemed on course after Ryan pulled out of talks to face Devin Haney. Ryan stated this was the better business move, increasing speculation that a title fight was set. But things all changed when Oscar De La Hoya stated that Romero had priced himself out of the fight. The Golden Boy promoter then revealed that Garcia was close to agreeing on a deal with Jose Ramirez, only for Garcia to hit back and state that this bout was unsuitable. That left Garcia and Romero in no man’s land, as Rolly was not impressed.

Romero On Garcia

“F Princess Ryan Garcia, f Oscar De La Fishnets, and f DAZN, the stiest streaming network out there, for wasting my time and more important wasting the entire boxing world’s time. It’s disgusting to see how you guys do business, then trying to go behind my back offering [Isaac Cruz] an offer, then claiming I [priced myself out]. Y’all fed up. Now it’s Rolly vs Pitbull on Amazon Prime, the largest network in boxing history. This fight is an explosion,” Romero said

This naturally begs the question: where does Garcia go from here? The boxer has now put himself in a position where he is not fighting for a world title. Haney had the WBC belt at 140, while Romero had the belt in the same weight class. With those fights no longer on the table, Garcia must devise a name to appease the fanbase.

Garcia’s Options

Teofimo Lopez is facing Jamaine Ortiz on February 8, 2024, during Super Bowl Week, meaning that he is not an option, which stops Garcia from targeting the WBO belt. The only other title fight on the table is Subriel Matias. The IBF champion is seen as the most avoided fighter in the division.

His record of 20-1 includes 20 wins by way of knockout. That would be risky for Garcia, who has only had one fight under his new trainer, Derrick James. Garcia could target Cruz, too, but that fight appears more likely for Romero since they are both aligned with PBC. The current suggestion is that both fighters may be asking for too much money, leaving Garcia with no option but to move on.

“Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, you know who we’re trying to make a fight. How about you come show me what you’re about? Sign a contract, and let’s see who is the truth. Rolly and Pitbull, do what you want. I don’t need any of you. At all. None of you want to fight, and making the biggest purse of your life is not my problem. Go ahead and fight between yourselves,” Garcia stated

If Garcia desires to be more active, he has to get in the ring as soon as possible. He is vocal about how that inactivity damaged him during his mental health struggles, which is why he will look to avoid doing the same again.
