Lomachenko Outclasses Kambosos; Tank Davis Wants Loma Next

Vasiliy Lomachenko outclassed George Kambosos Jr. to become the IBF Lightweight Champion with an 11th-round stoppage.

Loma was the superior fighter, toying with Kambosos, who had no answer for ‘The Matrix.’ Kambosos had a clear game plan: attack Lomachenko’s body to slow the Ukrainian. Devin Haney deployed that plan to give Loma a loss in his last fight.

After throwing his hooks to the Ukrainian’s body, Lomachenko circled around Kambosos, putting pressure with his foot position. He pushed the Australian back, letting his hands go near the end of the round to take the first.

Loma Starts Well

Lomachenko’s jab was working, making Kambosos overstep with his reach, leaving him open to the counter. The Australian’s corner wanted him to push Loma back, but the Ukrainian’s footwork kept Kambosos off balance. Kambosos did connect with Lomachenko during the exchanges in round four. But it came at the cost of getting tagged in return, making him reluctant to let his hands go.

Kambosos Hurt

Things were looking bleak, with the Australian having heavy bruising and swelling by the fourth. Lomachenko’s footwork allowed him to close the distance, land and then spin out of range. Kambosos was struggling to impose his will on the smaller man. Loma landed 73 punches at the halfway stage compared to Kambosos’ 16.

By rounds seven and eight, the damage was showing more. Kambosos began bleeding close to his right eye, while the same happened to his nose. He becomes more desperate in his attempt to get a knockout, leaving himself open to the body.

He paid the price, with Loma connecting with a left hand to the body. Kambosos took a knee. Another flurry of body shots followed, sending Kambosos to the canvas. The referee stopped it near the same time the towel came in. Tank Davis commented on the win, saying Loma was next.

Reaction

“This guy is one of the best of all time. We tried our best, but he’s a good champion. He deserves that belt. I gave it my all. I’m still alive, I’m still standing. I ain’t dead,” Kambosos
