Katie Taylor Eyes A Rematch With Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor is still targeting a rematch with Amanda Serrano later down the line.

The comments come in the aftermath of Taylor’s win over Chantelle Cameron to become the undisputed junior welterweight champion. And in doing so, Taylor became undisputed in a second weight class following her accomplishments at lightweight.

That resulted in Taylor defending those titles in 2022 against Serrano in a thrilling encounter. The fight went the distance, with Taylor coming out victorious via a split decision. In the aftermath, a rematch was scheduled, only for Serrano to pull out with an injury. Thereafter, Taylor faced Cameron only to lose in their first fight. But now that she has managed to avenge that loss, Taylor was keen on running things back with Cameron.

Taylor Vs. Serrano

“I’d be happy to do twelve threes with Amanda. I think twelve threes suits a boxer more than a fighter so I’ll be very, very happy to fight twelve threes,” Taylor said

Nevertheless, there is also the chance that Taylor has a trilogy with Cameron. The result has been disputed to some degree after Cameron’s knockdown of Taylor was ruled a slip. A knockdown, however, would have resulted in Cameron getting a draw, thus still retaining her titles. That has set up a narrative for a trilogy fight, something which Eddie Hearn was open to.

Hearn On Taylor-Cameron

“I’ll tell you something, the politicians and the Irish government need to make Croke Park happen. Katie has done everything for this sport and everything for this country. She deserves it more than anyone. We could make a financial case on the tourism and why an event like this would be a huge success for this country. But if they can’t understand the compassionate side of giving this event and night to their greatest ever athlete then I really don’t know what we are doing.

“We’re not even asking for favours. All we are asking for is for the cost to be in line with the biggest stadia in the world where we hold boxing. We don’t want a free stadium. If they want to give us one that would be marvellous. All we are saying is just make it there or thereabouts at Wembley, or Millennium Stadium or Dallas Cowboys,” Hearn stated

Regardless of what the case may be, Taylor was open to facing either Serrano or Taylor.

“I really don’t care. Either one is fine to be honest. I think it’s wherever the best fights and biggest fights are. I can easily go back to 135 but it’s wherever the best fights are,” Taylor

At the age of 37, Taylor is in the latter parts of her career. And with not too much time left in the sport, Taylor has earned the right to choose a fight on her terms. But whether it is Cameron or Taylor next is anyone’s guess. But either way, the scene has been set for a mega event.
