De La Hoya Mocks PBC And Al Haymon After Canelo's Departure - 'Great Job Al'

Oscar De La Hoya has mocked PBC following the departure of Canelo Alvarez.

PBC has often been criticized for not making the biggest fights since they only fight in-house. Alvarez’s departure was a massive blow, given their recent deal with Amazon Prime Video. That leaves PBC without a big fight for Cinco De Mayo Weekend, as Canelo could find himself back with DAZN.

De La Hoya works with DAZN alongside Matchroom Boxing, making that a big coup if Canelo returns. That leaves PBC with only Gervonta Davis and David Benavidez as their two main stars, as De La Hoya questioned their stable.

De La Hoya On PBC

“I’m making fighters. Who else is stepping up?? Where’s all the Hamon fighters? The Hamonites are cringe. I don’t give a rats ass what you say. I’m back and im taking over!!!! [sic]. I wanna see morel vs Berlanga. What do you guys think ? A fighter that hasn’t fought in years and a fighter that nobody knows is a recipe for disaster on @amazon. Great job AL,”  De La Hoya stated

De La Hoya is well aware of the difficulties of working with PBC fighters. The Golden Boy Promoter faced a massive backlash after a Ryan Garcia fight with Rolando Romero broke down. De La Hoya claimed that Romero had priced himself out of the fight.

Romero responded by accusing De La Hoya of trying to make a fight with Isaac Cruz instead. As things played out, Romero signed a deal to fight Cruz. Garcia then returned to the table to fight Devin Haney. But that was only after both sides exchanged verbals.

De La Hoya On Romero

“F— Princess Ryan Garcia, f Oscar De La Fishnets, and f DAZN, the stiest streaming network out there, for wasting my time and more important wasting the entire boxing world’s time. It’s disgusting to see how you guys do business, then trying to go behind my back offering [Isaac Cruz] an offer, then claiming I [priced myself out]. Y’all fed up. Now it’s Rolly vs Pitbull on Amazon Prime, the largest network in boxing history. This fight is an explosion,” Romero said

“Rolly saying ‘oh, f**k Golden Boy,’ and like relax, dude. The fight’s not against me…if I would’ve fought you I would’ve knocked your a** out easy. But you’re not fighting me so just keep it cool. Trust me, it would’ve been the most money he would’ve ever made in any fight,” De La Hoya said

The decision has backfired on Romero. He is on the co-main event of PBC’s first Amazon Prime PPV featuring Keith Thurman and Tim Tszyu. But the card has been criticized, given that the main event is a non-title fight. Given the build-up for Haney-Garcia, which has dominated headlines, Romero may have missed the chance to secure a big payday.
