Conor McGregor Slams The UFC For His Absence - 'I Need A Decision Soon'

Conor McGregor has blamed the UFC for his continued absence.

The Notorious has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. That was his third defeat in his last four UFC bouts. A broken leg also accompanied the loss. Since then, McGregor has been aiming to fight in 2024. He entered the USADA testing pool shortly before the organization parted ways with the UFC. On New Year’s Day, the Irishman announced he was fighting Michael Chandler on 185 pounds on June 29. Dana White shut that down, saying he was unsure if McGregor would fight again.

McGregor’s Return

“If you had s*** loads of money, would you be sitting here right now asking me this f***ing question? No you would not. That’s just answered your question. I don’t know [if Conor will fight in the UFC again]. Conor has got a lot of money.

“Anytime we get Conor, we’ll be happy, we’ll be thrilled when he comes and fights. Money complicates a lot of things. He just filmed a movie, he’s gotta do the press for the movie and he’s got obligations with that. He does wanna fight this year, but we’ll see what happens,” White revealed

McGregor has responded, expressing his desperate desire to fight in June.

“Still holding [out] hope for June 29th. Lack of action on it however is now causing a lack of enthusiasm. I need a decision soon. I am the most tested athlete under this new regime. Yet no date to fight. This game is a bit lackluster also at the present which isn’t helping. I hope these next few cards pop and I get a date. Eliminate distractions and begin real work towards it,” McGregor said

McGregor’s Future

Aside from facing Chandler, McGregor is also open to fighting Nate Diaz. The trilogy has been mentioned for some time, with their record standing at 1-1. Diaz won their first fight at UFC 196, only for McGregor to win the rematch at UFC 202.

“I wish for this on Mexican Independence Day in the sphere. Chandler June. Diaz September. I have let this be known,” McGregor revealed

McGregor is eying his second boxing fight if a UFC fight cannot be agreed. His only boxing bout occurred in 2017 when he faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. The Notorious lasted ten rounds before he was stopped. While a rematch has been mentioned, it is far from being made.

Manny Pacquiao has been mentioned as a possible opponent. There are suggestions that Saudi Arabia is keen on making the fight in December. But for that to happen, the UFC would have to allow it. McGregor has two fights left on his contract, making it more difficult.

Since he has not had any competitive action since 2021, there are concerns that he may never return as the same fighter who became a two-weight world champion. But that has not stopped McGregor from chasing the fight.

“It’s still there. Could be [in] December. The Saudi’s are game changers in the market 100%,” McGregor said
