Tim Bradley Not Convinced By Canelo, ‘Fight Bivol And Benavidez’

In some recent boxing news, Tim Bradley has called on Canelo Alvarez to face David Benavidez or Dmitry Bivol following his win over Jermell Charlo.

Canelo was in imperious form as he outclassed Charlo to win by a unanimous decision. In the aftermath of the fight, the Mexican admitted that he was not ‘beatable’ given the current form that he was in.

That has naturally turned the attention towards his next opponent. Benavidez has been Canelo’s WBC mandatory for over a year, but talks over getting a fight made have not been so easy.

Benavidez’s team have spoken previously about Alvarez not acknowledging a fight offer they had made to Eddy Reynoso.

Canelo-Benavidez

“On Monday May 29 at 4:45pm, I emailed you what I’m sure would be one of the most lucrative offers of Canelo Alvarez’s career to face Benavidez. Please know that you do indeed have an offer to face Benavidez, a sizeable one, and I must tell you that I’m offended by your claim that I’m “fantasizing” about making this fight happen,” Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz

In response, Alvarez has been accused of ducking the Mexican Monster. In addition, a rematch with Bivol could not be made as disagreements over the weight class emerged.

The Russian wanted to take on Canelo for his undisputed super middleweight titles at 168 pounds. Meanwhile, Canelo was adamant on taking the rematch on the same terms at light heavyweight.

But now that Canelo is entering into the latter parts of his career, Bradley urged the Mexican to give the fans the biggest fights.

Bradley On Canelo

“We want to see him against somebody his own size, somebody that’s I’m going to punch back at him. We want to see him against Benavidez. We want to see him against Bivol at 168. We don’t want to see you at 175 against Bivol. We want to see you at 168 for all your straps at 168 because obviously, when you fought, Bivol was quote unquote this is the excuses that everybody makes. ‘Oh, Bivol was too big. He was daring to be great. He went up in the weight class,” Bradley said

With that being said, Bradley questioned whether Canelo was back to his best. The American focused on Alvarez’s failure to stop a fighter that had come up two weight classes.

This was despite him having dropped Charlo in the seventh round. As such, Bradley recognised that Canelo’s weakness of gassing out in the later rounds may still be there. And in doing so, Bradley did not see much progression given that Alvarez did not get Charlo out of the ring.

“Everybody is saying that Canelo’s back. Come on, man. That’s the same Canelo we’ve always seen. That’s the same Canelo that’s been fighting three years ago. Think about that because when I look at his style, it’s the same. So, you couldn’t knock out a guy that was 14 pounds below your weight,” Bradley stated

Eubank Jr. On Canelo

If those fights cannot be made, then another fighter is ready to step in. Step forward Chris Eubank Jr. The latter had openly called out Canelo after he had stopped Liam Smith in the 10th round during their rematch.

The Brit expressed how facing Alvarez in the UK would be a lucrative fight, something which the Mexican may be on board with since he is a cash cow in the sport. And following Charlo’s performance, he hit out at the American for failing to put up a good fight.

Despite Charlo’s power not doing much damage at 168, his failure to follow up on any success that he did have showed that the American was aiming to avoid suffering extensive damage. And as a result, Eubank has offered to step in and give the Mexican a fight.

“Canelo needs to fight someone who’s going to get in there & put it on his ass. Someone who actually wants to win not just survive, secure a payday & give him a sweet lil hug after. This sh** is getting embarrassing. I don’t want a hug… I want that scalp!! #CaneloEubank,” Eubank Jr stated

Ultimately, Canelo is the money fight for most fighters which is why the Mexican is in a position to dictate the terms. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
