Tank Davis' Trainer Calvin Ford In Police Custody On Assault Charges

Gervonta Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, has been arrested on assault charges.

The Baltimore Banner broke the news of Ford’s arrest, which took place on December 29, 2023. The authorities took action, as the trainer was allegedly leaving the Upton Boxing Gym in Baltimore, Maryland. Ford is wanted on two counts of ‘assault with a deadly weapon.’ The incident reportedly happened in Las Vegas, Nevada. The authorities had filed an arrest warrant on October 16, 2023, as Ford waits to be transferred to Nevada from police custody. Davis’ co-trainer, Kenny Ellis, reacted to the news and maintained that Ford was innocent.

Ford’s Arrest

“Coach Calvin ain’t the type of guy that out here getting in a bunch of drama. I can’t stress it enough, Calvin is innocent. He didn’t do nothing wrong,” Ellis said

This is not ideal for Davis’ preparations in light of his recent trouble. Tank was also incarcerated after breaking his house arrest conditions. Davis was required to stay at Ford’s house as part of his punishment over a hit-and-run incident. He left the premises without telling the authorities as he served the remainder of the house arrest in jail. Davis was unhappy with the decision, as his comments from jail had shown.

Davis’ Arrest

“This judge is crazy. This judge is… they seen I bought a property. I did everything in my power to listen to my lawyers. I listened to everyone to a ‘T.’ She’s mad that I brought a property. That’s why I’m sitting in jail. She wanted me to be in an apartment… a one-(bedroom) apartment. I couldn’t take that. She wanted me to stay in a one-(bedroom) apartment where I couldn’t have my kids or nothing and things like that. I wanted to shed some light on this situation. She’s taking advantage of me and she’s doing stuff that’s not right to me. I just had to shed light on this situation,” Davis stated

Davis’ Future

The news may hinder Davis’ next steps. Following their recent deal, he is expected to headline PBC’s first PPV with Amazon Prime Video. Isaac Cruz was mentioned as an opponent or a a fight at 140 in the hope of then facing Devin Haney. It is unclear how Davis will proceed if Ford does end up doing time for a considerable period.

Davis has also recently converted to Islam, another significant step in his life. He adopted the name Abdul Wahid, meaning Servant of the One, although he is still legally known as Gervonta Davis. He also bought some apartment blocks in his Baltimore neighbourhood to give back to the community, showing his commitments outside the sport.

“I definitely want to thank everybody that was included and helped us make this happen. “I feel as though when I was coming up, we didn’t have somebody to be hands-on with us,” Davis

“Tank, when he goes around the world, he literally carries the city of Baltimore on his back. For you to come back, invest in your hometown, invest in your community, and invest in your block – is truly, truly special,” ” Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby

This is a critical period for Ford and Davis moving forward. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
