Devin Haney Targets Ryan Garcia Following Gervonta Davis’ Reluctance
Devin Haney has admitted that the focus is on fighting Ryan Garcia, not Gervonta Davis.
The WBC junior welterweight champion was linked with the Davis fight following an exchange on social media. Bill Haney indicated Davis turned down a guarantee of $20 million, to which Davis demanded that team Haney contact Al Haymon. Since then, Davis has blocked Bill Haney on Instagram and shut down Eddie Hearn’s Instagram DM over making a fight, showing a lack of urgency.
Haney Vs. Garcia
Ryan Garcia has demonstrated a desire to make it happen. Following Haney’s win over Regis Prograis to become a two-weight world champion, he indicated his desire to make the fight in 2024. That included reaching out to Haney, which ‘The Dream’ confirmed. Now, the negotiations have begun.
“There’s no real negotiations [Gervonta Davis]. That’s a fight I’d love, but his team hasn’t reached out to us. They said they’d be the ones to send an offer, but nobody’s reached out. We’re on to Ryan Garcia now. [And] we’re in negotiations with Oscar and Ryan, Ryan’s lawyer, and Ryan’s team, so it could very much be what’s next. We’re still in the beginning stages of negotiations. Matchroom is part of the team,” Haney said
Making a fight with Garcia will be a lot easier than with Davis. Garcia and Haney have fought on DAZN, removing any hurdles when it comes to networks. The fight with Gervonta Davis has been complicated by PBC’s deal with Amazon Prime Video.

There is an expectation that Davis will headline a major PPV on the platform next year. In addition, Davis fights at 135 pounds, so he would have to move up in weight to make the Haney fight. The latter has also ruled out a rehydration clause, which Davis likes imposing on bigger fighters. Despite wanting to see the fight happen, Haney blamed Davis’ team for not reaching out.
“There’s no real negotiations. That’s a fight that I would love, but nothing has taken off. His team hasn’t reached out to us or anything like that. “They said they would need to send us an offer, and they would be the ones that would be reaching out and doing that. Nobody has done that. Now, we’re onto Ryan Garcia now,” Haney stated

And yet, there are still hurdles with the Garcia fight. Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, has fired shots at Bill Haney’s behavior in the negotiations. There are question marks over who is the A-side. Garcia has the bigger fanbase, as his Instagram following of over 10 million is proof of that. He also brought over 1.2 million PPV buys for his fight with Davis. Haney is a two-weight world champion, which Garcia has failed to do, but Henry has had reservations over what he has seen so far.

Because the thing is this bro, you never upset a fighter prior to anything. You don’t want to do that because you’re like saying, ‘Hey man you’re full of this, you’re a piece of this and you’re a piece of that but can you let me in for a moment so we can have dinner?’ That’s why I say go to church, brother,” he added, referring to Bill Haney,” Bill Haney revealed
