Inoue Would Get Destroyed By Tank Davis – Says Kenny Ellis

Naoya Inoue would be beaten comprehensively by Gervonta Davis

That is according to Davis’ assistant trainer, Kenny Ellis. Following Inoue’s win over Stephen Fulton where he stopped the American in the eighth round, the Japanese became a four-division champion.

As a result, he picked up the WBC and WBO super-bantamweight titles as he targets becoming undisputed at 122 pounds.

The talk naturally turned towards how far up in weight Inoue can go up. After all, Manny Pacquiao managed to become an eight-division champion.

In response, Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza hinted that such a fight could happen later down the line.

This would require Inoue to move up to featherweight, super-featherweight before going to lightweight.

Espinoza’s Comments

“Look, you never know. Inoue’s come up a lot of weight already, but he’s been carrying the power the whole time. Yeah it sounds a little bit crazy now he’s at 122lbs, but it’s only 13lbs more.

“It’s intriguing. I would love to see Tank vs Inoue. After that performance yesterday I wouldn’t put anything out of his reach,” Inoue

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. Weight classes do exist for a reason.

When fighters move up in weight, there is a tendency that they have to trade up either speed or strength when they move up.

This was most notably seen when four-division champion Mikey Garcia moved up to fight Errol Spence Jr.

Garcia jumped two-weight divisions and was outclassed in a performance where Spence dominated. Although there are exceptions, it is hard to find.

And yet, Manny’s win over Oscar De La Hoya was also when ‘Pacman’ jumped up two-weight classes to fight the Mexican at a catchweight of 145 lbs.

While Manny did win, in truth, De La Hoya had drained himself to 145. Therefore, if a bout between Inoue and Davis did materialize, then Ellis has backed Tank to be too powerful.

“Tank too big, too strong. He can’t beat no damn Tank. He too small. Tank would destroy that kid,” Ellis
