Shakur Picks Tank To Destroy 'C-Level' Fighter Frank Martin

Shakur Stevenson has picked Gervonta Davis to destroy Frank Martin

Davis has his first fight since stopping Ryan Garcia last year in a defense of his WBA Lightweight Title. Davis and Martin have sparred previously, as both fighters gave a different narrative over what happened. Martin recalled buzzing Davis. While Davis recognized he was caught, he dismissed suggestions that he was hurt. Martin took up boxing when he was 15, something which is considered late to become an elite boxer.

However, boxers have shown this is not always the case. Oleksandr Usyk started boxing at 15. He has now become undisputed at cruiserweight and heavyweight, beating Tyson Fury via a split decision. However, Shakur felt this would come back to haunt him. Davis has been boxing since he was seven. Martin’s last fight against Artem Harutyunyan was a struggle. He was getting outboxed by his opponent, only for Artem to take a knee in the final round. That swayed the scorecards in favor of Martin. But Shakur could not see how Martin would beat Davis.

Shakur Reacts

“The way I look at that fight, it’s levels. There are levels to the fight. Tank is going to go in there and figure him out, figure out that he’s really not on his level, and then he’s going to annihilate him and feel like he’s on the top of the world because he annihilated somebody that is C-level. I don’t really got nothing to hate on him, but the levels. He [Frank Martin] started [boxing] at 17-years-old. 15, whatever it is. He clearly started late. He’s like a behind fighter. So, he’s got to catch up to all the years that we’ve been putting in since youngsters like. I don’t think there’s any way he can do it [beat Tank Davis],” Shakur said

Shakur will fight Artum himself in his next fight on July 6. Stevenson has plenty of criticism to answer, especially after his last performance. While he defeated Edwin De Los Santos via a unanimous decision to win the WBC Lightweight Title, his performance was booed. Shakur was fighting backwards off his jab. Although he had a hand injury coming into the fight, his stock had fallen.

Shakur’s Future

He is in the final fight of his Top Rank deal. Shakur has said he will explore other options once he is a free agent. He could sign with PBC to make the Tank fight. There is also the option of going with DAZN to fight Devin Haney. Alternatively, Shakur could stay at Top Rank and demand the Vasiliy Lomachenko fight.

There is also an outside chance that Stevenson boxes Martin. Before Davis vs. Martin was agreed, a deal with Shakur was close. However, Stevenson said Martin withdrew, demanding a 50-50 split. The numbers did not make sense since Martin has never won a world title, while Shakur is a three-division champion.

“Frank say if he not getting 50/50 with me he ain’t fighting. He said 50/50 or nothing,” Stevenson stated
