Sean O’Malley Says Ryan Garcia Is On Drugs

Sean O’Malley, the UFC Bantamweight Champion, has accused Ryan Garcia of being on drugs amid his social media activity.

Garcia is preparing to take on Devin Haney on April 20 in a WBC Junior Welterweight Title clash. But the build-up has been dominated by concerns over Garcia’s mental health. The boxer was caught admitting that he was ‘high as f**k’ during a Live Space Interaction.

Garcia later addressed those comments, saying he only drinks and smokes weed. His ex-wife, Drea Celina, also stated that she was worried about his welfare. Despite Garcia’s father stating that the boxer is fine, Garcia continues to post on social media, raising concerns over whether he is in a good place. O’Malley feels the boxer may be using substances.

O’Malley On Garcia

“Cocaine’s a hell of a drug. I think he’s on drugs and he’s acting a fool. Yeah, I feel bad for him more than anything you know? Cocaine’s a hell of a drug, yeah that [fight between us] will never happen. If it does, I’m here for it. [But] it won’t be my fault that the fight doesn’t happen so. Realistically, that [fight] will never happen,” O’Malley said

The former Unified Welterweight Champion Keith Thurman has also urged Garcia to put his health first. Ryan admitted that he had no access to his social media, nor was he allowed to access his bank accounts. It is unclear if that is still the case, but that would only be done if there were worries over the boxer’s state of mind.

Garcia had previously been away from the sport for around two years with mental health issues. This was after he had stopped Luke Campbell in one of his career-best wins. Now, Thurman has advised Garcia to put himself first.

Thurman On Garcia

“I just hope that he gets the help that he needs. Of course, nobody wants him to pull out of the fight, but I would have to say that right now it’s not the time.  Right now, if he’s not desperate for the paycheck, you might want to think about your own health and wellness and come back to the sport at another time. If this is just a small hiccup, then get it together, kid, and get ready to put on a world-class performance for the fans to see,” Thurman stated

Garcia has reassured fans that the fight will go ahead. But the controversy has left Devin Haney in a very tough position. This is his first defense of his WBC Junior Welterweight Title. If the fight does not go ahead, there are worries that it may never happen. That will hamper The Dream’s activity and ultimately damage his chances of securing other big fights, given how long it had taken him to make the Garcia fight. But Haney accused Garcia of pretending to sell the fight.

“The fight is happening April 20th.. he’s just playing crazy to “sell it” which is weird because it’s people who are actually crazy out there but he’s just acting for attention,” Garcia added
