Wilder Accepts Opetaia Offer For Fury-Joshua Undercard
Deontay Wilder has reportedly agreed to face Jai Opetaia on the December 11 Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua card at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, while also holding talks about a fight with WBA champion Murat Gassiev.
“Spoke to Deontay Wilder manager Shelly Finkel, who said they’ve accepted offer for Wilder to face Jai Opetaia in the [Fury-Joshua] co-feature [and] are awaiting word if it’s a go. They’ve also had talks about Wilder facing WBA titlist Murat Gassiev,” Dan Rafael
Wilder, 40, beat Derek Chisora by split decision in April, flooring him twice. A fight with Oleksandr Usyk was widely expected to follow, but the proposed Zuffa Boxing headliner was dropped.
Opetaia, who stopped Noel Mikaelian in the ninth round last month, would move up from cruiserweight for the bout. He also agreed in the ring with David Benavidez to fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend 2027.
