Usyk Picks Stevenson To Beat Davis
Oleksandr Usyk has a prediction for the Gervonta Davis versus Shakur Stevenson fight.
The three-time undisputed champion believes Stevenson would win the matchup if it gets made. The reasoning behind Usyk's pick is not difficult to trace — he has built his own career on movement, defensive intelligence, and technical precision rather than knockout power, and he sees those same qualities in Stevenson as the deciding factor against Davis's explosive but less disciplined approach.
Davis has not competed since a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, and his situation outside the ring — an arrest warrant in Maryland for probation violation, ongoing legal proceedings, a WBA Champion in Recess designation — has complicated any return timeline. Reports suggest he will not fight until early 2027 at the earliest.
Stevenson, meanwhile, has been moving in the opposite direction. His dominant performance over Teofimo Lopez in January, followed by his recent signing with Zuffa Boxing, has repositioned him as one of the division's most active and commercially relevant figures.
The fight's potential has not diminished with time. If Davis resolves his legal situation and returns in 2027, and if Stevenson continues building under Zuffa, the matchup becomes one of the most commercially significant in the sport regardless of weight class.
