Souza Stops Parsons In Brutal First-Round Finish
José Souza knocked out Jonny Parsons in the first round at UFC Vegas 124 on Saturday night, landing a lead uppercut that dropped his opponent to the canvas and ended the fight.
Souza opened the show at the Apex in Las Vegas using his reach advantage, MMA Fighting reported, while Parsons tried to close the distance with kicks. Near the end of the round, the 24-year-old Brazilian welterweight timed a counter uppercut that folded Parsons and separated him from consciousness.
Souza's UFC Journey After Contender Series Loss
The finish marked Souza's second UFC win after he failed to earn a contract on Dana White's Contender Series in 2022. He returned to the regional circuit, picked up several victories, and signed with the promotion earlier this year. Souza won a split decision over Meng Ding in his octagon debut at UFC Macau.
The knockout capped the early prelims for an event that features Tatiana Suarez vs. Virna Jandiroba in the co-main and Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Johnny Walker in the heavyweight headliner. The card streams live on Paramount+.
