Piazzon Vows To 'Slice' Uriel's Face At DWCS

Mario Piazzon welcomes the tension heading into his Dana White's Contender Series fight with Guilherme Uriel on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

The Brazilian heavyweight pair touched foreheads at Monday's weigh-in staredown, and Piazzon told MMA Fighting he expects things to escalate when the cage door closes at the Apex. "I like that hostile atmosphere," he said, recalling similar energy from his first DWCS appearance in September 2023.

Piazzon's Road Back After Upset Loss

Piazzon defeated Alexander Soldatkin by disqualification that night but did not earn a contract. The 15 months since included a brutal upset loss to journeyman Alex Junius in Sao Paulo, where Piazzon was stopped inside three minutes by a fighter with a 15-39 record. He called the defeat the biggest learning experience of his career and said it forced him to stop underestimating opponents.

Uriel also fought on DWCS before, losing to Josh Hokit by finish in 2025. Piazzon said he respects Uriel's toughness but sees levels between them. "Once I get my hands on him, he won't stay on his feet," Piazzon said. "When I take him down, I'm going to slice his face open."

The heavyweight clash takes place Tuesday at the Meta Apex with a UFC contract on the line for both fighters.
