Gervonta Davis Proposes 144-Pound Compromise For Ryan Garcia Rematch

Gervonta Davis has floated a new offer to fight Ryan Garcia at 144 pounds, a step up from his earlier 140-pound proposal.

Their first meeting in 2023 ended with Davis flooring Garcia in round seven, a fight that saw Garcia commit to a grueling 10-pound rehydration limit under the catchweight terms. Davis has been largely inactive since — a stoppage win over Frank Martin and a hotly disputed draw with Lamont Roach Jr. mark his only outings — and he later lost his WBA title after failing to stay active while also facing an outstanding arrest warrant. On the other side, Garcia has climbed to WBC welterweight champion, headlined by a second-round finish of Conor Benn in his most recent fight.

Garcia won't entertain a fight under 147 pounds, insisting he already paid the price by draining down to 136 the first time around and that the concession should now run the other way.

With the balance of power clearly tilted in his favor, Garcia has little incentive to budge — he can simply wait for Davis to meet his terms, or turn his attention elsewhere to fighters like Isaac Cruz or a 2027 unification clash with WBA titleholder Teofimo Lopez.
