Ryan Garcia has told Gervonta Davis their rematch must happen at 147 pounds after the two exchanged messages about running it back nearly three years after their first fight.

Garcia, who stopped Conor Benn in two rounds Saturday to retain his WBC welterweight title, called out Davis on social media earlier this week. Davis countered by offering 144 pounds for the sequel. Garcia rejected that proposal and doubled down on his demand for a full welterweight limit, per The Ring.

Garcia's attorney Guadalupe Valencia confirmed to The Ring that Davis and promoter Al Haymon have reached out. "Ryan is the best welterweight in the world; it's not debatable," Valencia said. "As the champ, Ryan calls the shots, so it must be at 147 pounds — period." Garcia later posted that he wants Davis to take a tune-up fight and handle some personal matters before they meet again.

Davis stopped Garcia with a body shot in the seventh round of their April 2023 fight at T-Mobile Arena, which drew 1.2 million pay-per-view buys on Showtime. Davis has fought twice since then, beating Frank Martin by eighth-round stoppage last June and drawing with Lamont Roach in March. He has competed above 135.5 pounds only once, stopping Mario Barrios in 2021 at the junior welterweight limit.
