Haney Promises To Expose Prograis - 'He’s A One-Trick Pony'

Devin Haney has downplayed Regis Prograis‘ skills by claiming that the boxer is a one-dimensional fighter.

The two boxers will square off on December 9th, 2023, during which Haney makes his debut at 140 pounds for the chance to win Prograis’ WBC belt. And in the process of doing so, a win would make Haney a two-weight world champion. Both fighters arrive into the bout with not the best of performances.

The ‘Dream’ beat Vasiliy Lomachenko via a unanimous decision, which was deemed controversial, to say the least. Many in the boxing community felt that the Ukrainian should have been the undisputed lightweight champion since he landed the more telling shots. As for Prograis, the boxer struggled in front of his home fans in his split-decision win over Danielito Zorrilla. And with both boxers having a lot to prove, Haney felt that he was simply the better fighter.

Haney On Prograis

“He has no skills. We all know he’s a one-trick pony. He wants to go try and land a big left hand and knock you out. That won’t work. I’ll go in there and show him that skills pay the bills. He has nothing but power. Now, it just makes for me to go in on December 9th and put everything that we’ve been working on to work,” Haney said

A win for either fighter would set up a potential unification bout with the other big names in the division. Teofimo Lopez holds the WBO junior welterweight belt. The ‘Takeover’ is a two-weight and two-time lineal champion, showing that he has one of the best resumes in boxing.

In addition, a super fight with Ryan Garcia could emerge since the boxer has shown his ability to draw in a huge crowd. His fight with Gervonta Davis sold over 1.2 million PPVs as well as generating the highest gate in 2023. And yet, there is also a chance that if Haney were to win, he could move up to 147.

Haney’s Next Steps

“147 is the next weight class up. So that weight class is an interest. Not only Keith Thurman, but other guys as well. It all starts with me being victorious on December 9th. Once I’m victorious, I can tell you who I want next or who I have my eyes on. Of course, Teofimo is great for boxing and is a fight that can be made, but like I said. It all starts with December 9th. I’ve got to be victorious. Once I’m victorious, I can tell you,” Haney

Prograis’ Aim

Nevertheless, Prograis is not going to lie down. The boxer recognized that fighters are only as good as their last fight. But outside of the Zorrilla performance, Prograis had shown that he was a dangerous fighter in the division. The American’s only loss came at the hands of his fight with Josh Taylor, who was the former undisputed champion at 140. So when it came to the Haney fight, Prograis was ready to put on a performance.

“I’m a two-time world champion and I don’t get the recognition I deserve. But this fight is going to put me on the map where I belong. My road has never been easy. It’s always been kind of bumpy. I feel like I am on the verge of superstardom. I am going to show up and show out on December 9,” Prograis stated
