Bob Arum Confident Over Making Ryan Garcia Vs. Teofimo Lopez

In some latest boxing news, Bob Arum remains confident that a fight between Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez will be made for next year.
Garcia is currently preparing to face Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, 2023, with the hope of then fighting for a world title provided that he comes through the Mexican.
Meanwhile, Lopez recently confirmed that he is in no rush to come back to the ring as he targets the biggest fights possible. The ‘Takeover’ has the WBO junior welterweight belt after having beaten Josh Taylor to become a two-weight world champion.
“Only way you get Teofimo back is a nine-figure contract. I’ve made ESPN over $100 million and getting paid $1 million. Fighters that have not even done a quarter of what I’ve accomplished get $15m,” Lopez said
That fight would naturally make sense given Garcia’s desire for a world title, as well as Lopez’s aim of fighting for the highest purse. After all, Garcia had shown his commercial value when he sold over a reported 1.2 million PPVs against Gervonta Davis.
Arum’s Comments
“We’re hoping to get that fight done sometime in February. In the meantime, [Ryan] Garcia has a fight [against Oscar Duarte on December 2nd], but I don’t think there’s going to be that much difficulty a Teofimo-Ryan fight together for the end of February,” Arum said
Garcia-Duarte Card
Outside of that, the Garcia vs. Duarte undercard has been announced. The headline event will see Garcia have his first fight with Derrick James at junior welterweight after moving up from 135 pounds following the loss to Gervonta Davis.
Standing in his way is Duarte, who has stopped his last 11 opponents. The Mexican is known for being heavy-handed with his sole loss coming against Adrian Estrella via a split decision.
In the co-main event, Ohara Davies makes his American debut by taking on Ismael Barroso in a WBA Super Lightweight Interim title fight.
Davies will have his first fight under Golden Boy Promotions, having won seven on the bounce to get to this position. As for Barroso, the boxer will aim to bounce back following his controversial loss to Rolando Romero.
Despite being stopped in the ninth round, the majority of the boxing community questioned the referee, Tony Weeks’ stoppage. Barroso was still punching back while he was on the ropes.
And at the time of the stoppage, he was ahead on all the scorecards having dropped Romero in round three. A win for either fighter would give them a title shot against Romero for the WBA 140-pound belt.
Elsewhere, rising prospect Floyd Schofield squares off against Ricardo Torres in a lightweight bout. Schofield’s WBA Lightweight International Champion belt will be on the line.
Meanwhile, Shane Mosley Jr. faces Joshua Conley in a middleweight contest. And to kickstart proceedings, Darius Fulghum fights in his hometown of Houston against Pachino Hill in a heavyweight clash.
