Deontay Wilder To Face Curtis Harper On April 26

Deontay Wilder will return to the ring on April 26 on  BLK Prime against Curtis Harper.

Wilder hopes to bounce back from his recent performances as question marks remain over his form. Zhilei Zhang knocked out Wilder in his last fight to give him his second loss in a row. He had come out second best to Joseph Parker in the fight before. The Bronze Bomber shut down suggestions that he will retire.

He did admit that he had used ayahuasca, saying he was in a much better place. There were suggestions Wilder may have lost his killer instinct. He has already secured his financial future from the sport and reached the top. He is a former WBC Heavyweight Champion who defended his belt ten times. As for someone who entered boxing at a late stage, Wilder’s career has exceeded expectations.

But he confirmed he suffered an arm injury before the Parker fight. He was unaware of this before facing Parker, which may justify his poor performance. Wilder’s last win was against Robert Helenius, which was a first-round KO. That was his only win with Malik Scott. Wilder has not responded by firing Scott. However, Scott has made it clear that his fighter is not as hungry as he used to be. He outlined how Wilder entered the sport to raise money for his daughter, who suffers from Spina Bifida.

Scott Reacts

“The last two guys that he fought are probably two of the toughest guys he’s fought in his career. Zhang is a southpaw, and is big and more imposing. Parker is an above-average fighter that Deontay took after a long layoff. After a long layoff, he’s fighting the best in the world/ What people have a problem with is the performance level. Him not going in there and performing at a certain level.

“We got to see what he wants to do. It’s up to him to see if he wants to have a good year in the division like I know he can. The ability is there. Obviously, the hunger isn’t the same as the first two years after he turned pro because he’s waking up with silk pajamas. He’s getting in that Rolls Royce, and he’s got everything that he came into the game for,” Scott said

Wilder must now deliver against Harper. His record stands at 18-11-0. He is undefeated in his last four fights. They were three stoppage wins, and one disqualification win. That streak ended his poor run of form, having lost four in a row. However, a win over Wilder would eclipse everything he had done. Now is the best time to face Wilder, as he appears to have lost his punch resistance. He also looks gun-shy, suggesting the three Fury fights may have taken a lot out of him. At 38, Wilder is only going to deteriorate physically. The question is which Wilder will turn up?
