Biography
Professional Career
Beginning his career in 2012 with a TKO win over Dean Garmonsway, Parker quickly made a name for himself in the heavyweight division. His early career was characterized by a series of dominant performances, including a first-round TKO against Dontay Pati in February 2013 and a TKO victory over Francois Botha in June 2013. Parker’s ascent continued as he captured several regional titles. In October 2013, he won the NZNBF heavyweight title with a second-round TKO against Afa Tatupu. This was followed by a string of successful defenses and additional title wins, including the WBA-PABA interim heavyweight title against Marcelo Luiz Nascimento in April 2014 and the WBO Oriental heavyweight title in July 2014 after defeating Brian Minto.
In December 2016, Parker reached a career milestone by winning the vacant WBO heavyweight title with a majority decision victory over Andy Ruiz Jr. in Auckland, New Zealand. He successfully defended this title against Răzvan Cojanu and Hughie Fury in 2017, showcasing his ability to compete at the highest levels. However, his title reign came to an end in March 2018 when he lost to Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision, in a bout that also had the WBA (Super), IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles at stake. Despite this setback, Parker demonstrated his resilience by securing victories over notable opponents like Alexander Flores, Alex Leapai, and Shawndell Winters. In 2021, he captured the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title with a split decision win over Derek Chisora and defended it successfully in a rematch later that year.
Parker faced another major challenge in September 2022 when he fought Joe Joyce for the vacant WBO interim heavyweight title. Although he was defeated by knockout in the eleventh round, Parker bounced back with impressive wins in 2023. He knocked out Faiga Opelu in May and Simon Kean in October, capturing the IBF and WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight titles. Parker capped off the year with a unanimous decision victory over Deontay Wilder in December, retaining his WBO Inter-Continental title and winning the vacant WBC International heavyweight title. In March 2024, Parker secured the WBO interim heavyweight title with a majority decision win over Zhilei Zhang,
