In some recent boxing news, David Avanesyan has talked up a potential fight between him and Josh Taylor amid reports that talks are taking place.

Avanesyan is a seasoned welterweight, whose six-fight-win streak came to an abrupt ended when he was stopped by Terence Crawford in the sixth round.

Meanwhile, Taylor suffered the first loss of his career against Teofimo Lopez as the latter secured the WBO junior welterweight title.

In the aftermath, Taylor hinted at the prospect of moving up to 147 and targeting another world title to make him a two-division champion. And with both fighters looking to bounce back, the fight would make sense.

After all, it would serve as a solid introduction to the 147 division for Taylor. At the same time, Avanesyan has no plans on retiring despite being 35.

Avanesyan On Taylor

“I am getting older and have been stopped by Crawford in a big fight. But now I might get more fight offers and people will want to fight me. Form a queue. I will fight anyone you put in front of me. I respect Taylor and his team, let’s just make a fight and have a fight. Why not do it? We have been in talks, but I have not heard back. I like to fight so am here to make it happen. I am ready to go again. I have been asking it. Taylor is a fantastic fighter,” he added. “I know what it is like to comeback from a defeat and I am ready if I get a call to fight,” Avanesyan

Taylor On Haney-Prograis

Outside of that, Taylor has picked Devin Haney to beat Regis Prograis. Taylor is well aware of what it takes to beat Prograis, given that Scott is the only fighter to have beaten the WBC 140-pound champion.

Taylor stressed that Haney would be too quick, strong and fresh against the 34-year-old Prograis. Although the latter does have more experience, Taylor felt that Haney would have too much.

“I think that’s a great fight. They’re two very good fighters. I shared the ring with Prograis and we had a good dust up. I’ve not shared the ring with Haney, but I’ve met him a couple of times and saw him in training and stuff. He’s very sharp. That would be a very good fight. In my opinion, I just think Devin Haney is a little bit too young, too fast, too sharp … Prograis didn’t look too clever in his last fight [beating Danielito Zorrilla via split decision]. Haney boxed [Vasiliy] Lomachenko and that was a great performance and a great fight. I thought Haney looked very sharp [winning the unanimous decision]. Just going off those two performances, if I was a betting man, I would place my money on Haney,” Taylor stated

Taylor’s career is at a crossroads. Having cleaned up the 140-pound division, the incentive to move up to 147 is huge. But given that he will face stronger punchers, can Taylor cut it at the weight class?
