Josh Taylor has looked back on his loss to Teofimo Lopez

The Scot lost via a unanimous decision as Lopez took his WBO junior welterweight title. That resulted in Taylor’s first loss of his career, as he contemplated moving up to 147 after suggestions that he could no longer make 140 comfortably.

Although that may be the case, that was the second consecutive fight where Taylor did not perform at his best. His split-decision win over Jack Catterall was controversial, with many in the boxing community believing that Josh had lost. But for all the criticism coming his way, Taylor felt it was simply a bad day at the office.

Taylor On His Loss

I still believe I’m the best in the division. I just had a bad night. When you’re at the top-tier level—Teofimo Lopez is no slouch. He’s arguably, although I still say he’s not—he’s arguably a two-weight undisputed world champion. He’s beaten the man who has beaten the man twice….when you have a bit of an off night you’re not going to win these fights when you have a bit of an off night when you’re at the peak level of the sport,” Taylor

With that being said, Taylor is still targeting the biggest names. The boxer could move up to 147 and challenge for the vacant belts if Terence Crawford vacates to move up to 154. Much in the same way, Taylor could have a rematch with Catterall.

Prior to his fight with Lopez, the pair were set to run things back. However, an injury prevented Taylor going ahead with the fight as he chose Lopez Instead. Regardless of who Taylor faces, the fighter was ready for whoever comes his way.

Taylor’s Future

“Just anybody with a big name and whoever has got the title, whoever has got the belts. Obviously, I’m at a stage in my career where I have to earn the most money. I want to be able to earn some good money fights now. I feel I’ve earned that right given what I’ve achieved the last several years. I’m looking for the big fights and whoever’s got the titles really,” Taylor
