Caleb Plant Wants Jermall Charlo Following Their Viral Confrontation

In some recent boxing news, Caleb Plant is targeting a fight with Jermall Charlo next.

Plant’s last fight was a unanimous-decision defeat to David Benavdiez. The defeat was a massive blow in that it had prevented him from becoming the WBC interim champion at 168.

A victory would have put Plant in line to fight Canelo Alvarez for all the belts at 168 once again, having lost the first time around in 2021. Although that may have been the case, a fight against Jermall is a chance for redemption.

The latter is the current WBC middleweight champion, who has not fought since his win over Juan Macias Montiel in 2021. A combination of personal and mental health struggles have kept the American away from the sport.

Having said that, Charlo is keen on making a return this year. A fight with Plant would make sense, given their recent altercation.

After the Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford weigh in, Plant hit out at Charlo. In the aftermath, Plant had confirmed that he had been disrespected in front of his wife, which is why he had lashed out.

Plant On The Altercation

“You know, grown man touch another grown man in his face, pulling on his beard real hard, and you know, I’ve got the decency to tell you not to do that again…And you know the only thing you can reply is with, [that] ‘I’m a b**ch-ass white boy. I got my wife standing right behind me and I’m in a room full of my peers. I mean, what do you do? You’re making it real hard on a guy…He kept touching me in my face. And I told him knock that s**t off, but he wouldn’t listen. I’m tryna to be left the f— alone, I know that,” Plant said

And that bad blood has now set up the narrative for a fight.

Plant Wants Charlo

“I’m looking to fight Charlo next. That’s the fight that I want. That’s who I want next. We gotta rumble. I know he’s been out for a minute. If he wants to get a tune-up, that’s perfectly fine with me but we need to make it happen. That would be a big fight for the fans. A lot of people wanna see it,” Plant stated

Nevertheless, there are still some issues that would need resolving. Charlo does fight at middleweight, while Plant is a seasoned 168-pounder. Therefore, a compromise would have to be reached.

If Plant did move down in weight for a fight, or at a catchweight, he could do so for the belt. At the same time, fighting at 168 may be in his favor since he is the bigger fighter.

But in doing so, there would not be any belts up for grabs. But given the narrative heading into the fight, Plant has plenty of reasons to fight Charlo. And if Charlo is ready to return, then a mega fight could be on the cards.
