Bivol Open To Facing Benavidez – ‘Why Not?’

Dmitry Bivol has welcomed the idea of facing David Benavidez at some point in the future.
Benavidez is currently campaigning at 168 lbs, as he targets a super fight with Canelo Alvarez.
The latter is the current undisputed champion, but the attempts at making that fight get over line have failed so far.
However, Benavidez is a big 168-pounder as the chances of him staying at that weight class forever are slim.
Not only that, but Benavidez has spoken in the past about moving up to light heavyweight and fighting Bivol.
“I sparred Bivol a lot, so I know what happened during those sparring sessions. Yeah, I can beat him. I can knock him out. He does leave himself open a lot.
“I feel like I could have a lot of success with him [Beterbiev], and I would love to fight him in the future. He leaves his body open a lot.
“You can really hit him with a lot of combinations. It would be an extremely tough task. I would want to go up to 175 and see how it is first before I go to the main guy. But I think at 175, I’m going to be even more stronger and faster,” Benavidez
Bivol has welcomed that idea, but only once he himself has grabbed more titles. The major stumbling block at the moment appears to be the WBC’s position towards Russian fighters.
Due to the current war in Ukraine, the WBC has prevented Russian fighters from fighting for its belt in world title fights. Such a decision has prevented Bivol from fighting for the undisputed championship by facing Artur Beterbiev.
But if Bivol can work out those issues and grab more titles, then a fight with Benavdiez is on his radar.
“It would be a great fight, why not? “My goal is to fight for belts,” Bivol
Such a match up would be a mega fight, as Benavidez would be attempting to do something which Canelo couldn’t.
That is to beat Bivol in his own weight class and put the Mexican fighters at the top of the 175 lb division.
