Shakur Stevenson Vs. Floyd Schofield Predictions - 'I Don't Think He's Ready'

Shakur Stevenson faces Floyd Schofield on February 22, as boxing insiders gave their predictions.

Shakur defends his WBC Lightweight Title for the second time. He won the vacant title after beating Edwin De Los Santos in a unanimous decision. His performance was criticized after he fought on the back foot, resulting in jeers from the crowd. Shakur defended his title in his next fight, beating Artem Harutyunyan via a unanimous decision. But he failed to stop his man, as the performance received a mixed response.

Shakur was meant to face Joe Cordina next. But Shakur pulled out after injuring his hand. Stevenson was then on course to face his WBC mandatory William Zepeda. But the latter pulled out with his hand injury, resulting in Schofield getting his shot. Schofield beat Rene Tellez Giron in his last fight via a unanimous decision. That took his record to 18-0, as he has his first world title shot. Here is how boxing insiders saw the fight playing out.

Stevenson Vs. Schofield

“Shakur all the way, man, yeah. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t think the young kid, he’s, he’s a pretty good fighter, but I don’t think he’s ready for Shakur. [And] I don’t think he ready for Shakur at all. You know? I mean, Shakur is levels higher, much higher than him. You know,  a lot of them go back by sparring stuff. Scofield, yeah, he’s coming at you. So a lot of time you can be running into a lot of shots. You know how slick Shakur is. You know, I mean, and he puts them punches together. I think it’s gonna be a good fight. I don’t know, man. It could be a stoppage,” Bozy Ennis

“I don’t know if Floyd is ready for that. You know, I heard they sparred before. I don’t know the sparring session went. But you know, it’s hard to sleep on Shakur. I think Shakur gets past him. I don’t think Floyd’s ready. He’s tough. He’s a good fighter. [And] he’s tough, but it ain’t gonna work with Shakur,” Rashidi Ellis

“Schofield has yet to really fight anybody and he is very young. And all he has is a father that talks rubbish. I don’t know if he’s ready for somebody like Shakur. I don’t think he’s good enough to beat somebody like Shakur Stevenson,” Blair Cobbs

“There’s a little physical advantage there for Floyd. He’s gonna need a physical advantage to make up for the gap in skill and experience and seasoning. And so that makes it an intriguing fight,” Sean Zittel
