Anthony Hernandez vs. Gregory Rodrigues headlines UFC Sacramento
Anthony Hernandez will look to snap a losing skid in front of a home crowd when he meets Gregory Rodrigues in the main event at UFC Sacramento on Aug. 22, NBC Sacramento first reported.
The middleweight bout at Golden 1 Center marks the promotion's return to Sacramento after a seven-year absence. UFC last visited the Northern California city in 2019, when Germaine de Randamie and Aspen Ladd topped the bill and local legend Urijah Faber competed in the co-main event.
Hernandez seeks rebound after Strickland upset
Hernandez, ranked sixth at 185 pounds, saw an eight-fight win streak end in his most recent outing against current middleweight champion Sean Strickland. That run included six finishes and victories over Roman Dolidze, Roman Kopylov, Michel Pereira, and Brendan Allen. The Northern California-based wrestler will fight in his third UFC main event, this time with local fans in attendance.
Rodrigues arrives on a three-fight tear that includes one-punch knockouts of Jack Hermansson and Brunno Ferreira. The 12th-ranked Brazilian, who goes by "Robocop," holds a 6-1 record in his last seven appearances. His lone defeat during that stretch came via decision against Jared Cannonier in his previous headlining spot.
The stylistic clash pits Hernandez's grinding wrestling and pace against Rodrigues's knockout power and credentials as an eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu national champion. No other bouts have been announced for the card, though the promotion is expected to feature California-based fighters on the Aug. 22 lineup.
