Xander Zayas and Boots Ennis face off in Brooklyn staredown
Xander Zayas and Jaron "Boots" Ennis faced off Thursday at their final press conference before Saturday's junior middleweight title unification bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, according to MMA Mania.
Zayas brings a 23-0 record with 12 knockouts into the fight, having won the WBO strap by stopping Jorge Garcia Perez in mid-2025 before adding the WBA title six months later with a victory over Abass Baraou. The 23-year-old defends both belts against Ennis, who holds the interim WBA title.
Boots Ennis chasing signature win at 154
Ennis enters 35-0-1 with 31 knockouts but has struggled to land fights against Tank Davis and Devin Haney, leaving his resume short on marquee names. A win over the undefeated Zayas would change that calculation overnight and potentially revive those stalled negotiations.
The staredown footage surfaced online following Thursday's press conference. Zayas is considered the less experienced fighter despite holding two titles, while Ennis has campaigned professionally since 2016. Saturday's bout airs from Brooklyn with the winner positioned for bigger money fights at junior middleweight.
