Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Zambidis exhibition cancelled
Floyd Mayweather's exhibition fight against Mike Zambidis in Athens this Saturday has been called off.
According to federal court records reviewed by ESPN, a company named CSI — which holds contracts with Mayweather for two other bouts — filed for an emergency injunction in the Southern District of New York to block the event. Attorney Melissa Glass confirmed in a court letter that the June 27 card will not proceed as scheduled, Bad Left Hook reports.
Legal dispute halts ticket sales and promotion
"Plaintiffs' commencement of this action and filing of the Motion, as well as their legal threats domestically and in Greece, have effectively stopped any promotion or distribution plans for the event and halted ticket sales," Glass wrote, per ESPN's court filing review.
Promoters of the Zambidis matchup claim they have suffered major financial losses on money already spent on the event, much of which they say cannot be recovered. The fight could be rescheduled pending a final ruling on the injunction, but no date has been discussed.
DAZN has pulled the event from its broadcast schedule.
