Sean Strickland Confronts Suspected Car Thief With A Gun

Video footage shows Sean Strickland confronting what he believed to be a car thief.

The MMA fighter is currently in the best phase of his career after becoming the UFC middleweight champion of the world by defeating Israel Adesanya. Strickland put on a dominant performance. This included dropping Izzy in the first round as he coasted towards a unanimous decision.

As of now, Strickland is preparing to make a first defense of this title against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 on January 20th, 2024. The champion has won his last three fights. Meanwhile, Du Plessis has eight wins in a row, the last of which was a stoppage win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 290.

So, the last thing that the fighter needed was the following incident, which had shaken up the fighter somewhat. In the following video, Strickland can see approaching the trespasser as his vehicle has entered the driveway. As he does so, he has a gun in his hand pointed towards him. The fighter then recalls the incident by saying the following.

Car Thief

“Here’s what I know….The guy was drunk stomping out a girl, a security guard seen it, he jumped in his car and drove off. Security followed him, hit a curb, completely shredded his tire, drove on the rim for awhile then jumped out and tried to hide at my house. I initially thought he was stealing my car..He was arrested,” Strickland

Strickland Vs. Du Plessis

Outside of that, the focus is on trying to beat du Plessis. The latter is the number-one-ranked contender, who had been hoping to secure a fight with Adesanya only for him to come unstuck against Strickland. And leading up to the fight, du Plessis does not see it going the distance. That is understandable when we look at the South African’s record in championship fights.

The former has gone the distance in only one of his 20 fights, showing that he does not plan on hanging around. Not only that, but du Plessis’ style is also something that Strickland will have to cope with. His unorthodox striking, with a tendency to throw from awkward angles, makes him tough to read. And given that he has a diverse range of tools in his arsenal, he expects to come out victorious in style.

“One thing that I think is going to shock a lot of people is the way I go at this. From the very first second of this fight, I’m going to go like I always do. The first opportunity I get, I will finish this fight. My honest prediction, there’s no way we’re going to championship rounds of this fight….When you get me and you get Strickland, you get two guys that are not afraid to stand in there and bang. He doesn’t like to fight backwards, and I promise you I’m not fighting backwards,” Du Plessis stated

With the fight almost here, it cannot come soon enough. So who will come out victorious? Time will tell. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
