Plant Confirms That A Canelo Rematch Is Close

Caleb Plant has revealed that a rematch with Canelo Alvarez is close to being agreed. 

The pair first faced each other in 2021 when Plant had the chance to become undisputed at 168 pounds. He was the holder of the IBF belt.

However, the American was stopped in the eleventh round as Alvarez became the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Prior to the fight, things had threatened to get out of control. Plant had swung at Canelo, as the latter responded with a slap that produced a small cut over Caleb’s eye. 

Although it was all settled in the ring, Plant is keen to get another chance to write his name in history.

“That’s what I’d like. I’ve let my management know what I want, and that’s what I want. I’m saying it here live. That’s what I want, but you can’t force anyone to get in there and fight. He’s got whatever he’s got going on.But I’m free at the end of the year. That’s what I want to do, but it takes two to tango.

“Canelo’s style has changed over the years, but I don’t want to get into that. I’m pretty close to having a rematch. It’s never good to correct your enemies. I’m going to let him do his thing, and I’m sure we’ll meet up soon,” Plant

However, if a rematch with Canelo cannot get made, then there is a chance that Jermall Charlo could be an option. Caleb infamously slapped Charlo following the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford weigh-in during an altercation.

Therefore, there is a narrative in place to have a Plant-Charlo bout. Regardless of what the case may be, Caleb is aiming to push himself against the top guys to become a better fighter. His following comments confirmed as much.

“The experience level and activity level are probably the two biggest [things I faced against Canelo]. With David [Benavidez], he’s a big guy. He’s really a 175-pounder who is killing himself to make 168  pounds. That was a close fight too. Continue to smooth some edges in my game,” Plant
