Shakur Stevenson dismisses undisputed chase after Haney-Kambosos

Shakur Stevenson has walked back his interest in becoming an undisputed champion, citing the path Devin Haney took to claim all four belts at lightweight.

Stevenson, who holds The Ring and WBO junior welterweight titles after beating Teofimo Lopez in January, told DAZN's Chris Mannix that undisputed status lost its appeal when George Kambosos collected multiple titles before Haney traveled to Australia and swept them in June 2022. "Undisputed was kind of watered down when I seen Kambosos get the titles," Stevenson said, per The Ring Magazine. "If it presented itself, then I'll do it but I don't care about it."

Stevenson targets legacy fights over belts

The Newark native said Haney made a smart business move by facing Kambosos but argued that dozens of fighters could have done the same. "I feel like there are 100 different fighters in the sport of boxing that could've done the same thing," he said. "For me, I don't care for it anymore. I just care about my legacy as the best fighting the best. If I go fight against Tank, nobody cares whether it was for undisputed or not."

Stevenson has won titles across four weight classes — featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, and junior welterweight. He mentioned both Haney and Gervonta Davis as preferred opponents, saying he would meet Haney at a catchweight of 144 pounds. Davis, who fought to a majority draw against Lamont Roach earlier this year, has not competed since and continues dealing with legal issues.

Both Stevenson and Haney are rumored to be signing with Zuffa Boxing, which could streamline negotiations for a potential matchup between the two undefeated champions.
