Sean Brady dismisses Buckley's Usman training ahead of UFC 328
Sean Brady does not believe Joaquin Buckley gained anything useful from his recent training sessions with Kamaru Usman ahead of their May 9 welterweight matchup at UFC 328 in Newark, New Jersey.
Buckley dropped a lopsided decision to Usman last June and recently traveled to Kill Cliff FC in Florida to train with the former champion in preparation for Brady. But Brady, who boasts six submission wins compared to Usman’s one, told MMA Junkie that the stylistic differences make the camp work irrelevant. “If I get you on the ground, I can submit anybody in the world,” Brady said. “I think that’s the biggest difference between me and Kamaru. I’m a submission threat, Kamaru is not a submission threat.”
Brady questions Buckley’s fight camp approach
Brady also took issue with Buckley traveling during camp and making public appearances. Per MMA Junkie, Brady noted that Buckley visited a fight store and handled media obligations while Brady stayed home and focused on preparation. “Me and Kamaru are two completely different fighters,” Brady added. “I’m home, locked in.”
Buckley told the same outlet he would have preferred the bout remain a five-round main event, as originally scheduled for UFC Fight Night 274 in April. After nearly 11 months away from the cage, Buckley said he wants to take his time rather than hunting an early finish. “I realized, it’s been a little minute, and I don’t want to rush it,” Buckley said. “I want to take my time.”
Brady is 18-2 but coming off a first-round knockout loss to Michael Morales in November. Buckley is 21-7 and has not fought since the Usman defeat snapped a six-fight winning streak. The bout takes place at Prudential Center on a card stacked with other marquee names.
