Nurmagomedov Destroys Colgan In First Round At PFL New York

Usman Nurmagomedov stopped Archie Colgan in the opening round at PFL New York on Friday, then challenged Jake Paul to back up his pay criticisms of Dana White.

Nurmagomedov defended his PFL lightweight title at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, New York, dropping the undefeated Colgan with a question mark kick before finishing with ground strikes at 3:42 of the first round, MMA Fighting reported. The finish came on the final bout of Nurmagomedov's promotional deal, setting up a likely move to the UFC.

Nurmagomedov Calls Out Paul On Fighter Pay

After the stoppage, Nurmagomedov addressed PFL co-owner Jake Paul, who entered the cage during the post-fight interview. "Money will," Nurmagomedov said when asked what would keep him in the promotion, per the live blog. "Why? Jake Paul talks about Dana White doesn't pay his fighters. Now's his chance to show how he pays people when they deserve it. 22-0, undefeated, undisputed lightweight champion of the world. Do we think I deserve it?"

Nurmagomedov now holds a 22-0 professional record with one no-contest. He set up the finish by landing front kicks and teeps to the body across the opening round, forcing Colgan to lower his guard before switching levels with the head kick. An uppercut dropped Colgan a second time before the referee pulled Nurmagomedov off.

Paul offered to buy Nurmagomedov a car if he scores another knockout in his next fight, though crowd noise during the cage interview made the exchange difficult to follow. Nurmagomedov told the audience this was his last contracted PFL appearance and said he now wants to see what White will pay.
