Brown: Jake Paul Has No Chance Against UFC

Retired UFC welterweight Matt Brown says Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions are wasting their time trying to compete with the UFC after the PFL merger.

The PFL announced plans to combine with MVP, the promotion co-founded by Paul, creating a combat sports entity that will stage both boxing and MMA events. Paul has stated the new company intends to challenge the UFC's dominance in mixed martial arts, according to MMA Fighting.

Brown Says MVP Lacks Resources To Challenge UFC

Brown told The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast that while the merger makes sense for both companies, MVP remains a distant second in the sport. He agreed with UFC CEO Dana White's position that the promotion competes with major American sports leagues rather than smaller combat sports entities.

Brown criticized what he sees as MVP's approach to competing with the UFC. He believes Paul and the PFL are attempting to outspend and out-recruit the sport's dominant promotion without the necessary resources. The UFC operates with a $7.7 billion broadcast deal with Paramount and over three decades of brand equity that newer promotions cannot match.

Rather than confronting the UFC directly, Brown suggested MVP follow the model of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, which carved out its own niche in combat sports. BKFC maintains a working relationship with the UFC rather than positioning itself as a rival, he noted.

Brown pointed out that fighters prioritize competing against the best opponents over higher purses from lesser-known promotions. The UFC title remains the ultimate achievement for most mixed martial artists, giving the organization an inherent recruiting advantage that financial incentives alone cannot overcome.
