White Calls Monday 'Great Day' Hours After Fighter Death

UFC CEO Dana White drew sharp criticism Monday after posting celebratory content on Instagram just hours after the promotion announced the death of flyweight contender Allan Nascimento.

White reposted the official UFC statement on Nascimento's passing to his Instagram story, according to MMA Mania. In the immediately following post, White appeared on camera blowing cigar smoke and calling it a "great day."

Moicano Among Fighters Blasting White's Timing

Former UFC title challenger Renato Moicano was among those who called out the timing on social media. "Damn, man… Dana messed up on this one," Moicano wrote on X. "Posted the kid's photo and then the cigs and we're just enjoying we're just enjoying!!?? We really are just passing through this cruel big world! Only Jesus saves."

White has not clarified what made Monday notable for him or addressed the backlash from fighters who viewed the juxtaposition as tone-deaf. Multiple fighters who considered Nascimento a friend expressed anger at the posts.

Nascimento compiled a 22-7 record and went 4-2 across six UFC appearances after signing with the promotion in late 2021. He was 34 years old.
