Khabib On Colgan Being Usman's Toughest Test

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes Archie Colgan represents the most dangerous challenge his cousin Usman has faced in the Professional Fighters League.

Usman defends his lightweight title against the undefeated American on Friday at PFL New York, with the former UFC champion telling Anatomy of a Fighter's Will Harris that Colgan's wrestling pedigree sets him apart from previous opponents. "I think this is the toughest fight for Usman," Khabib said, per Sherdog. "This guy's a real deal. He knows how to wrestle. He's tough, never lost."

Colgan's Wrestling Background Could Neutralise Usman's Ground Game

The Hall of Famer pointed to Colgan's Division I collegiate wrestling as a potential equaliser against Usman's grappling dominance. Colgan brings a 13-0 record and wins over Manuel Sousa, Mansour Barnaoui and Jay-Jay Wilson. Justin Gaethje, who once lost to Khabib in the UFC, will corner Colgan at UBS Arena in Long Island.

Usman has defended the belt twice since capturing it last year against Paul Hughes and enters 21-0 overall. Khabib said his cousin is in peak form — weight good, mood good — and called it a very high-level fight he cannot wait to see.

The bout also carries contract implications for Usman, who completes his current PFL deal on Friday. The main card airs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
