Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury: Only Turki Alalshikh's word matters
The biggest heavyweight fight in British boxing history remains a moving target, and according to Boxing Scene, only one man's word carries weight — Saudi Arabian financier Turki Alalshikh.
Alalshikh is expected to convene a summit with Dana White, Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren, and DAZN to settle on a location and date for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury. Contracts have reportedly been signed by both fighters, but the terms appear to be at odds. Joshua, per his Matchroom deal, is said to be locked into a November date in the UK with a stipulation blocking Zuffa Boxing from lead promotion. Fury's Queensberry contract reportedly specifies different timing and location, with a clause preventing either Zuffa or Matchroom from taking the promotional lead.
Promotional tug-of-war complicates November showdown
Frank Warren admitted that if Netflix secures broadcast rights, neither Matchroom nor Queensberry can officially promote due to exclusivity deals with DAZN. That possibility gained traction last week when Fury teased an alliance with White before declaring Alalshikh his promoter. Warren and Hearn have both grown frustrated with White's public commentary on a fight involving their boxers, though the Zuffa president has inserted himself into the conversation repeatedly.
Joshua is scheduled to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 as a warm-up bout. Fury has floated an August 1 fight in Ireland but has yet to commit. Alalshikh's summit will reportedly determine whether Wembley Stadium in London hosts the showdown or if the fight lands elsewhere. Until he speaks, the rest is speculation.
