Ian Garry wants four rounds of domination before Islam finish

Ian Garry has mapped out exactly how he plans to beat Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 in August, and it does not involve a quick finish.

The Irish welterweight contender told fans on Instagram that he wants four full rounds of control before putting the former lightweight champion away in the fifth, per MMA Mania. An early knockout, Garry said, would leave room for doubt. "I don't want any early knockout because then there's ifs, buts, maybes. 'Ah, there's excuses.' I want four rounds of domination," he said in the video. "And in that fourth round, I'm going to tell everybody: I'm going to do it now. And then I'm going to go in there and finish him."

Garry chasing pound-for-pound status at UFC 330

Garry believes a methodical beatdown is the path to both the welterworld title and the top spot on the pound-for-pound list. Makhachev moved up from lightweight last fall to take the 170-pound strap from Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, and he enters the Philadelphia showdown on a 16-fight win streak that ties Anderson Silva's UFC record. Garry bounced back from a decision loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov by stopping Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad in consecutive outings.

The bout headlines UFC 330 on August 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Garry opened as a sizable underdog despite his recent momentum. Michael Morales has said he plans to make weight as a backup in case either man pulls out.
