Cobey Fehr opens up on opioid addiction after PFL debut win

Undefeated bantamweight Cobey Fehr broke down in tears after his Professional Fighters League debut victory, then explained the journey that brought him to the cage at PFL San Diego last weekend.

Fehr submitted Daniel Bzdigian with a vrabo choke two minutes into the fight, according to Sherdog. The 31-year-old then revealed in a post-fight interview that he left his Ohio home six years ago with four dollars in his wallet, fleeing an opioid addiction his family never knew about. He arrived in Las Vegas while withdrawing and suicidal, determined to rebuild.

From withdrawal to the PFL cage

"I came to Vegas with $4 in my wallet. I've never told anyone in my family this, but I was addicted to opioids," Fehr said, per Home of Fight. "I was out of my mind; I was suicidal. I tried to take my own life so many times. So when I left Ohio with $4 in my wallet, I was withdrawing from opioids, and I was out of my mind. I went to Vegas to reinvent myself."

The bantamweight now carries a 4-0 record, with three finishes. One win was later overturned to a no-contest after a failed drug test. Fehr said earning his parents' pride matters more than anything. "They deserve it. They did a great job raising me, and I just didn't know how to listen," he added.

Fehr is expected to compete again in the PFL's bantamweight bracket later this year.
